Amazon PPC vs TikTok Spark Ads: Where to Spend First in 2025

Both channels work. But they work differently — and the order in which you turn them on decides whether your first $5k compounds or evaporates. Here's the framework we use to sequence paid media for a new brand.

They solve different problems

Amazon PPC captures existing demand. Someone is already searching "magnesium glycinate" — you're paying to be the result they click. It's harvest.

TikTok Spark Ads create demand. Nobody is searching for a product they've never seen; you're paying to put it in front of a scroll and manufacture the want. It's sowing.

Amazon converts demand that already exists. TikTok manufactures demand that doesn't. If nobody's searching for your product yet, Amazon PPC has nothing to harvest.

The decision comes down to three inputs

Category: is there search volume?

If your product sits in an established Amazon category with real search volume (supplements, kitchen, tools), start with Amazon PPC — the demand is there to capture. If it's novel, impulse, or visually demonstrable (a gadget, a beauty transformation, a snack), start with TikTok to create the demand first.

Margin: can you absorb the learning phase?

TikTok's algorithm needs conversions to learn, and early ACoS is ugly. If your contribution margin is thin (<35%), lead with Amazon PPC where cost-per-click is more predictable. Healthy margin buys you room to let TikTok find its footing.

Launch stage: what does the flywheel need?

  • Pre-launch / no reviews: TikTok first — it builds awareness and drives the off-Amazon searches that lift your organic rank.
  • Live with some reviews: Amazon PPC to defend your listing and convert branded search that TikTok is now generating.
  • Scaling: run both — TikTok creating the searches, Amazon capturing them. This is the loop.

Where the first $5k usually goes

For most new consumer brands with a demonstrable product, we sequence it like this:

  • Weeks 1–3: TikTok creator content + a small Spark Ads budget behind early winners. Goal: proof and search lift, not ROAS.
  • Weeks 3–6: turn on Amazon PPC on branded and category terms to catch the demand TikTok is now creating.
  • Ongoing: reallocate weekly toward whichever channel is returning — and watch your Amazon organic rank climb as the TikTok-driven searches compound.

The takeaway

Don't ask "which channel is better." Ask "does demand for my product already exist?" If yes, harvest it on Amazon first. If no, manufacture it on TikTok first — then let Amazon catch what TikTok creates.
